2014 in watercolor

To kick off the new year, I was so happy to be commissioned to create these calendars. Taskforce, one of favorite cleints to work with, let me let my hair down with this piece. At first, they approached me for a unique gift for about 10 people and then it ended up as 100 custom designed, all letterpress printed and watercolored calendar.

On this special project, we added a wash of neon watercolor over the blind debossed 2014 and even pulled off a gradient pattern. For the letterpress nerds, I had to make crazy layers of packing to pull it off.  I had a trash can full of paper by the time I got it right.

To package it all up, I pressed a custom address area on the front of a kraft mailer and pressed a few notecards for a personal note.

Success and quite the unique gift for the new year.

Cheers!

catching up.

I'm horrible at updating this place.  Apologies.

Take a look at this handful of prints since the last post

Where has the summer gone?  Hopefully this Autumn brings winds of new projects and collaborations with new people. I have custom holiday paperie on my mind. It's never too last to start thinking about holiday greetings. Before you know it, we'll be all in boots and sweaters singing fa la la la la!

park baker & sons

This client is exactly why I love meeting clients in person. Sure, in the beginning you typically go back and forth with emails but eventually, I meeting in person is the best way of doing business...at least for me.

Alice works the same way. She'd rather press skin than do the email tag game. She stopped by the studio and right there and then, we chose the paper and designed her layout while she art directed over my shoulder. She told me about her vision for her new bakery shop in LA's Mar Vista area called Park Baker & Sons.

We met up to deliver her cards at the Fairfax Farmers Market and we chatted about food, cooking, bread in Germany, cooking with seasonal fruits and vegetables and of couse, baking. It was so inspiring to listen to someone so enthusiastic about their craft. While I was ranting about paper, she was going on about baking and food. It's so important and infectious to meet other "rule-breakers" that are really into what they do, and to hear their journey on how they got to where they are now.

Yes, it was a pleasure to meet Alice.

tricolor thank you

Hot off the press is this feminine, clean and simple notecard of gratitude. It's straight to the point, understated and elegantly designed by the chic tastemaker and designer Emma Dime. On the back side of the card, we printed her personal info with white ink for a clever detail.

I love these cards! I'd love to see one complete with a handwritten note.
